Dr. Pietro Carlo Cacciabue
is a former researcher of the European Commission - Joint Research Centre (JRC-EC). Currently, he collaborates on a voluntary basis, with the Italian Flight Safety Committee with the task of Project Manager of Safety Database System (SDS). He holds a PhD in Nuclear Engineering, since 1993 at the Politecnico di Milano, and is regularly invited as Professor under contract by several Italian and European universities to lecture in Master Courses regarding human factors and ergonomics, risk analysis and security, and systems engineering. He is a recognized trainer of basic courses "Human Factors" in accordance with current regulations EASA-145 in the field of aircraft maintenance. He has managed several projects during the research framework programmes of the European Commission, linked to Security and Human Factors. In particular, was responsible for research activities for safety and risk assessment in transport, with particular attention to aviation. In this domain, P.C. Cacciabue oversaw the development of “Crew Resource Management” Training Courses for airlines pilots, for flight assistants and for flight controllers in Italy. He is author of two monographs and several publications in scientific journals in the field of safety and security systems, human factors and human-machine interactions. He is the Editor in Chief, together with Prof. E. Hollnagel, of the "International Journal of Cognition, Technology & Work (IJ-CTW)".
